Building plans take shape at EPS

Edgerton Public School has proposed a new building project that voters will consider on April 9 at a special election. Above is a drawing of the proposed changes to the school campus.

The plans include a new elementary gym with locker rooms and weight room, and a new preschool. A second option would be to remodel the existing office space into classroom space and relocate the administrative offices to be more accessible to the public.

The ballot wording will be as follows:

Question 1 

Approval of School Building Bonds

Shall the board of Independent School District No. 581 (Edgerton), Minnesota be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $13,500,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, replacement, upgrades and improvements to restrooms, early childhood classrooms, gymnasium, locker rooms, bathrooms and weight room area, relocation of the maintenance/vehicle storage building, demolition of the 1936 building (The Den), and various deferred capital maintenance projects?

Question 2:

If School District Question 1 is approved, shall the board of Independent School District No. 581 (Edgerton), Minnesota be authorized to issue general obligation school building bonds in an amount not to exceed $2,800,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including, but not limited to, constructing and equipping of a safe and secure main entrance, additional classrooms, and improvement of parking and traffic flow?

Voters can vote absentee. In order to receive an absentee ballot, you need to complete an application which can be picked up at the school office or found on the school website. Return the application in person or mail it back to the school.

Once your application is approved, you can pick up your absentee ballot in person or request it by mail. You can also return the ballot in person or by mail.

To vote in person on the day of the election, April 9, please go to the Edgerton Emergency Services Building between 8:00 a.m and 8:00 p.m.
