Carla Rae Schaap, 70, of Park Rapids, Minn., passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at the Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D.

Carla R. De Vries was born on May 24, 1953, at Artesia, California, the daughter of Clarence and Dolly (Dooyema) De Vries. She grew up in California and Chandler, Minn., and attended school at Edgerton, Minn., where she graduated from high school in 1971.

She was united in marriage to Franklin Schaap on Sept. 3, 1971, at Chandler.  They lived in Bemidji, Minn., and then Park Rapids. She loved to travel with family. Carla enjoyed camping and shopping with friends and family.  She enjoyed spending time with Frank and the grandkids.  She also enjoyed playing purse bingo with her daughter and family.  Carla worked at Citizens National Bank in Park Rapids for 30 years, retiring in 2018 as an administrative officer. She was a longtime member of Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids.

Carla is survived by her husband Franklin Schaap, Jr. of Park Rapids; two children: Michelle JoAnn (Brent) Darr of Ostego, Minn., and Franklin Paul (Shelly) Schaap, III; her mother Dolly Hjellming of Edgerton; and her grandchildren: Eddie Darr, Riley Darr, Maggie Darr, Charlie Darr, Franklin Schaap IV, Tia Schaap; siblings: Alanna Vander Top, Charlie De Vries, Gary De Vries, and Todd Schaap; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Clarence De Vries.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2023, at the Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church.    Friends may leave online condolences at ceasefuneralhome.com
