EPS Boys Struggle vs. RRC

By Mike Drooger –

On Tuesday night, February 7, the Red Rock Central Falcons boys’ basketball team made the long journey to Edgerton from the Sanborn, Lamberton, Storden, and Jeffers area to take on the Flying Dutchmen.

The Falcons entered the game with an overall record of 7-11, which is already a four-win improvement over last season’s 3-24 mark.  The game between the Falcons and Dutchmen mirrored the professional basketball game being played in Denver on the 7th where the Minnesota Timberwolves could do little right in the first half.  They trailed the Nuggets 79-48 at halftime.

In Edgerton, the Dutchmen trailed the Falcons 13-37 at the break. The second half began with the Dutchmen turning the ball over, which more or less summed up the evening for EPS.  When the final buzzer sounded after a ragged second half of play, the Dutchmen were on the short end of a 62-44 score.

The Falcons are an athletic bunch.  Many of their basketball players also played football last fall.  RRC finished the season with an 8-4 record.  Their final loss was in the State Tournament.  The Falcons are not only athletic but they are also big.  One player in particular—Corey Arkell—is a mountain of a man.  He was listed on the football roster at 6’5” and 330 pounds.  When Edgerton’s Jared Fischer disappears behind a player, you know that player is hefty.
