Library hosts author

Gayle Walhof is an emerging Christian fiction author from Doon, Iowa. Her debut novel, Songs of Naamah: A Novel of King David’s Harem, was published in April 2025 by Inscript Books.

Walhof was at the Edgerton Public Library on Saturday, May 10, to promote her new book and offer signed copies for sale.

The book offers a richly imagined retelling of the final years of King David’s reign, focusing on Naamah, a young Israelite woman taken into the royal harem. Through Naamah’s perspective—and that of Reuel, the son of one of David’s advisors—the novel explores themes of trauma, faith, secrecy, and redemption, interwoven with biblical events such as David’s adultery with Bathsheba, Absalom’s rebellion, and the rivalry between Adonijah and Solomon.

Walhof spent four years writing and publishing the book, a journey she shared as a featured speaker at the Bible League’s Spring Salad Lunch-eon in Rock Valley, Iowa, in April 2025.

Songs of Naamah is available in paperback through major retailers including Amazon, ThriftBooks, and Indigo.

Walhof grew up in the area. Her husband is a son of Murial and the late Elmer Walhof. She attended Leota Christian School and Southwest Christian High School.

If you’re interested in historical biblical fiction with a spiritual and emotional depth, Walhof’s debut may be a compelling read.
