Dwayne Verlyn Christoffels

July 8, 1951 –  April 23, 2025   

Dwayne Verlyn Christoffels, age 73, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.  Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, S.D., with burial following at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls.  

Dwayne Verlyn Christoffels was born on July 8, 1951, in Pipestone, Minn., to Louis and Bertha (Spronk) Christoffels.  He was raised on a dairy farm in rural Hardwick, Minn.  Dwayne received his education in Edgerton, Minn., graduating from Southwest Christian High School Class of 1969.  Following high school, Dwayne enlisted into the US Army National Guard where he proudly served for 14 years. While serving, he also earned his meat cutting certification at Pipestone Vocational School. 

While working as a meat cutter at Hank’s Grocery in Pipestone, Dwayne found the love of his life, Patricia Martens.  The couple was united in marriage on May 18, 1974, in Pipestone. Dwayne and Patricia lived in the Minnesota communities of Olivia, Worthington, and Pipestone before making their home in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1981 and were blessed with four children, Mike, Eric, Jennifer and Kylee.        

Dwayne found his calling in the Plumbing industry over 48 years ago. He became a journeyman plumber in five states.  Owning and operating his own plumbing shop before moving to Sioux Falls where he worked for over ten years at Howe Inc.  Dwayne transitioned to Midwestern Mechanical Inc. where he spent over 25-years. Dwayne was a valued employee, giving numerous instructional classes to fellow plumbers until his “retirement” in 2019.  

Dwayne was a hard worker, always on the go and always willing to help anyone in need.  His outgoing personality and warm smile and quick wit welcomed friendships wherever he traveled.  He loved playing a practical joke and giving advice on life or politics (especially to his grandchildren).  He had a passion for classic cars and loved showing his 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 at numerous car shows.  He also loved taking daily drives and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.

Above all, Dwayne loved spending time with his family from camping trips in the early years, cheering them on in all of their school activities, playing monopoly and liars dice to going on hunting trips with his sons.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed.  

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Patricia “Pat” Christoffels; four children; Mike (Amy) Christoffels of Sioux Falls, S.D., Eric Christoffels of Sioux Falls, Jennifer (Eric) Post of San Tan Valley, Ariz., and Kylee (Jason) Buller of Brandon, S.D.; eleven grandchildren; four siblings, Rev. LeRoy (Dorothy) Christoffels of Worthington, Minn., Markay (Dave) Lyon of California, Virgil (Ann) Christoffels of Sioux Falls, and Meredith (Greg) Dekker of Arizona; brother-in-law, Elroy Vanderley of California; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Bertha Christoffels; grandson, Jacob Noah Christoffels; sister, Twyla Vanderley; sister-in-law, Cheryln Christoffels; mother-in-law, JoAnn Martens; father-in-law, Johnny Martens; and one niece Teresa Lyon.
