Moffitt surpasses 1,000-point plateau

A successful three-pointer against Adrian-Ellsworth on February 7 made Edgerton’s Kade Moffitt the 18th player—and the tenth male—to wear a Flying Dutchmen uniform to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He needed 22 points to reach the milestone. He ended the game with 35 to put him at 1,013. He became just the second male player at Edgerton Public to reach 1,000 points as a junior. The other is Dean Veenhof, who did it during the 1959-’60 basketball season. Three girls reached a thousand points as juniors—Amy Kallemeyn, Alyson Drooger, and Alyda Vande Griend.

Moffitt arrived on the Flying Dutchmen basketball scene as an eighth grader when he got some minutes at the end of the season. It was evident at that early age that he could handle the ball. Being able to use either hand equally well makes him difficult to guard one-on-one, which allows him to create shot opportunities. He scored ten points on varsity in eighth grade, 204 as a freshman, and 372 his sophomore campaign. Through 18 games in his junior season, he scored 427 points for nearly 24 points per contest. Moffitt has one triple-double this season and has flirted with a handful of others falling short by one rebound or an assist.

A still pumped Moffitt was the KDWC Radio Player of the Game on February 7. During his postgame interview with Ross Kruen, he humbly said, “I gotta thank God. I gotta thank VK (former head coach Doug Van Kley) for giving me a chance. I can’t do it without my teammates; my family. Bobby (Kuiper) helps me in the gym before the game. I’ve got so many people to thank. I couldn’t have done it on my own.”
