William (Bill) Lloyd Loenhorst

William (Bill) Lloyd Loenhorst, 75, passed on to Heaven Wednesday, December4, 2024, at the Pipestone County Hospice Home from pancreatic cancer.

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Faith Community Church in Pipestone. Cremation services were provided by Affordable Cremation in Marshall, Minn.

Born on Nov. 28, 1949, to Herman and Edna Loenhorst, Bill lived humbly, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as an adult, and touched the lives of many people throughout his life. Bill graduated from Edgerton High School in 1967. In 1997 he completed his B.A. degree in Accounting at Western State College in Colorado, graduating summa cum laude.

He served his country in the U.S. Army 1968-1970 during the Vietnam War, and attained the rank of Specialist 4. He was a distinguished Sharpshooter, and was awarded the Purple Heart medal for wounds sustained in action. His working career was varied and interesting as a Veteran Services Officer, an accountant, a hunting guide, and some ranching. His horse, Speedy, was a faithful companion.

Bill was a member of Faith Community Church in Pipestone, having served on the board and as the financial secretary. He also volunteered with the ATLAS organization in Pipestone. Bill’s interests centered around nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, the mountains, and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, especially Basswood Lake.

He is survived by brother Larry (Sherry) Loenhorst of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sister, Lorae (Mike) Carlson of Pipestone, Minn.; sister-in-law Sharon Loenhorst of Orange, Calif. He is also survived by numerous cousins, with a special closeness to Myron Tinklenberg, Leah Roskamp, and Audrey Schrader, and by nieces Brooke, Bobbi, Leesa, Stacey, and nephews Todd and Mike Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Edna Loenhorst, and by his brother, Gary Loenhorst.
