MINNIE GALE ACHTERHOFF
Minnie Gale Achterhoff, 89, of Edgerton, passed away March 13, 2024. A memorial service was held Monday, March 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church, Edgerton, with Pastor Mark Groen officiating. The congregation sang Blessed Assurance, In The Garden, and It Is Well With My Soul with organist Brenda Kleinjan accompanying them. Pallbearers were her grandchildren and interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.
Minnie Gale Achterhoff was born to John and Lydia (Vos) Schuld on a farm near Edgerton, Minnesota, in February of 1935. She attended country school and then Edgerton Public High School. After her graduation in 1953, she worked at the Edgerton Swimming Pool and Jolink Drug Store in Edgerton. On June 28, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Achterhoff at First Reformed Church in Edgerton. While raising her family, she operated a daycare in her home. When her children were all in school, she returned to work outside the home at Jolink Pharmacy. Her final years of work before retirement were spent working at Wendy’s Flowers & Scents in Edgerton.
Gale was a life-long member of First Reformed Church in Edgerton where she was active in ladies circle, choir, youth group, and other activities. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Edgebrook Care Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, working with flowers, and quilting by hand with family. Most of all, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Minnie Gale is lovingly remembered by her husband Jim Achterhoff of Edgerton, four children, Cindy Bolden and her husband Lionel of Marshall, Minn.; Ryan Achterhoff and his wife Marcia of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Patti Kruger and her husband Kelly of Rock Valley, Iowa; and Kyle Achterhoff and his wife Amy of Sioux Center, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Virgil Schuld of Edgerton, and Elaine Ressmeyer of Minnetonka, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Fred Schuld, Cornelia Menning, Gladys Zwart, Marguerite Smith, Nick Schuld, Armabelle Stoel, and Robert Schuld.
