EDWIN LUBBEN

June 4, 1932 – October 25, 2023

Edwin Lubben, age 91, of Leota, died Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 31, 2023; 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church, Leota, Minn., with Pastor Ed Veldhuizen officiating. Congregational hymns were My Jesus, I Love Thee and How Great Thou Art accompanied by pianist Shelli De Groot. Special music was When The Storm Passes By, sung by the Cornerstone Quartet, Scars In Heaven sung by Cody Lubben and Calissa Keller, and What A Friend We Have In Jesus by Kaitlin Rohlik.

Pallbearers were Jennifer Lonneman, Lori Crowely, Amy Johnson, Kaitlin Rohlik, Josh Lubben, Tina Talsma, Chad Lubben, Cody Lubben, Calissa Keller, Miles Lubben, Owen Lubben, Reed Lubben, Jordan Hoff, and Brady Hoff, Interment was in Leota Community Cemetery, Leota.

Ed was born June 4, 1932, in Leota, to Thomas and Alice (Lolkus) Lubben. Ed attended Leota Christian School through eighth grade. He served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1955 and served during the Korean Conflict.

Ed married Evy Post on March 1, 1955, at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church. After their marriage, the couple farmed by Lismore and southeast of Leota for a few years. Then, in 1962, they moved to a farm southwest of Leota. Ed and Evy then moved into town in 2016.

Ed enjoyed many things in life such as driving around to see what the boys were up to, playing ROOK and babysitting his great-grandchildren. But, farming was his life! He loved going to the farm multiple times per day. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and could always be found making trips to help out his children or grandchildren. He and Evy enjoyed vacationing to Texas for the winter, which they did for 14 years. He loved to attend all the Cornerstone Quartet performances and was the #1 requestor of the song, When The Storm Passes By. He was also a member of the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota and the Edgerton American Legion.

Ed is survived by his four sons, Randy (Martha) of Reading, Minn., Keith (special friend, Connie) of Tracy, Minn., Cal (Char) of Leota, and Vince (Jeanine) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; fourteen grandchildren ; eighteen great-grandchildren and two more on the way; three sisters, Esther Evink, Edgerton, Marilyn Jasper, Edgerton; and Nory (Ed) Scholten, Farmington, Minn.; and sisters-in-law Arlene Post of Chandler, Minn., Sue Post of Lake Wilson, Minn., and Kathy (Lou) Kuhl of Worthington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evy on November 27, 2020; an infant brother; a sister, Hildred Hudson; his in-laws, James and Jennie Post; six sisters-in-law, Bernice Manderschied, Ada DeKoekoek, Geneva Toering, Fannie Post, Cornelia Post and Edith Walhof; nine brothers-in-law, Walter, Nelson, Frank, and Jim Post, Pete Walhof, Hank Toering, John Evink, Leroy Jasper, Bud Hudson; and he is now in Heaven holding the unborn infants of his family.
