LORRAINE BERGHUIS

Lorraine Evelyn Berghuis, 100, passed away on September 2, 2023, at Edgebrook Care Center, Edgerton, Minn.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023; 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church, Edgerton, with Pastor Mark Groen officiating. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.
Special music, Jerusalem The Golden was sung by Leroy Christoffels. The congregation sang Amazing Grace and Blessed Assurance with organist Brenda Hamm.
Pallbearers were John Vander Haar, Phil Menning, Cal Brouwer, Larry Brouwer, and Jim Schulze.
Lorraine Evelyn Berghuis was born on September 20, 1922, to Edward and Alice (Vander Sluis) Bylsma on their family farm near Edgerton. Lorraine had one sister, Bernice. Lorraine was baptized and made profession of faith at First Reformed Church of Edgerton. She graduated from Edgerton Public School and was united in marriage to Leslie Brink on March 19, 1944, at the First Reformed Church of Edgerton.
To this union one daughter, Gloria Beth, was born on December 31, 1944. Gloria Beth was born while Leslie was serving during World War II. Father and daughter were never able to meet one another because Leslie was killed in action on February 24, 1945.
Later, Lorraine was united in marriage to William H. Berghuis on January 3, 1948. Bill and Lorraine enjoyed 66 years together. They enjoyed being involved in their church. Lorraine taught catechism, Sunday School, and was involved in many church circles. She also loved singing in the church choir and especially enjoyed singing at the Messiah concert. The couple also enjoyed traveling together.
Lorraine enjoyed cooking, sewing, and having many visitors in their home. Bill and Lorraine especially loved having their daughter, Gloria, and granddaughter, Julie Klomparens, for visits. Lorraine was always there to give loving care for Gloria and Julie.
In 2000, they moved into Edgebrook Estates Independent Living Apartments, and later to an assisted living unit. After a short stay at the Pipestone County Medical Center, Lorraine moved back to Edgebrook Care Center on April 17, 2023 under Hospice care. She passed away on September 2, 2023, at the age of 100 years, 11 months, and 12 days.
Lorraine is survived by her sister-in-law, Rose (Brink) and husband Al Vanden Bosch, of Edgerton; Ethel (Berghuis) Wirt, of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Brink, and husband, William Berghuis; daughter Gloria (Brink) Klomparens; granddaughter Julie Klomparens; sister, Bernice and brother-in-law, Lawrence Menning; John and Ida Vanden Bosch; Pete and Alice Vanden Bosch; Lubertus and Bess De Boer; Con and Mable Scholten; Homer and Nell Leighten; Ed and Tressa Berghuis; Ben and Jo Berghuis; Chuck and Esther Daughty; Jack and Jo Berghuis; Paul and Ruth Temple; John Wirt.
