HELEN JOSEPHINE SCHULD

January 24, 1924 – August 19, 2023

Helen Josephine Buysman Schuld passed away at Edgebrook Care Center on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the age of 99 years.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 25, 2023; 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church, Edgerton, Minn., with Rev. Mark Groen officiating. Brenda Hamm was organist with the congregation singing One Day At A Time and Ivory Palaces. Special music was provided by Lucas Roskamp singing How Great Thou Art. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.

Casketbearers were Darwin Schuld, Steve Schuld, Jeff Schuld, Paul Schuld, Tim Sandhurst, Derrick Johnson, Robert Johnson, and Michael Van Santen.

Honorary casketbearers were Pam Boeve, Nancy Neeley, Karen Holm, and Pam Van Santen.

Helen Josephine Buysman Schuld was born January 24, 1924, to Frank and Hattie Pool Reinsma. She was adopted by Garrett (Gerrit) and Josie Pool Buysman and raised in the Chandler area. She went to country school (District 60) for eight years. On November 6, 1942, she married Nick Schuld in the church parsonage. To this union seven children were born.

Nick and Helen were engaged in farming for 20 years. Helen also worked for Campbell Soup, Feckers, and 21 years at the Edgerton Bakery. During that time she also did a lot of quilting and gardening and enjoyed card games with friends. 

She was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Edgerton all her life. Helen became a resident at Edgebrook Independent apartments in 2009. She stayed in her apartment for 14 years before going to the Edgebrook Care Center in June of this year.  

Helen is survived by children Dorland (Shirley) Schuld of Sioux Falls, S.D., Rodney (Jane) Schuld of Bloomington, Minn., Edward Schuld of Sioux Falls, S.D., Carmen Schuld of Round Lake, Minn., and Deb Carlson of Omaha, Nebr.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great- grandchildren. 

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nick, daughters: Julie Gray and Sharon Johnson; sons-in-law: Sidney Van Zanten, Bill Gray, John Johnson, and Kent Carlson; grandsons: Ronald Schuld and baby boy Sandhurst; and brothers: Howard (Connie) Buysman, William (Ethel) Buysman, and Gilbert (Ruth) Buysman; sisters: Frances (Leo) Kepler and Henrietta “Harriet” (Gay) Krull; brother Don (Mary) Reinsma; half-brothers Arthur “Art” (Janet) Reinsma and Harold (Julia) Reinsma.
