GERTRUDE JACOBA SCHNEIDER

May 20, 1924 – May 3, 2023
Longtime Alamosa, Colo., resident Gertrude Schneider passed away on May 3, 2023, just 3 weeks before her 99th birthday. A memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church. Interment was in the City of Alamosa Cemetery
Gertrude was born on May 20, 1924, in Belgrade, Minnesota, to Case and Sophie Veldhuizen. She spent her younger years on her parent’s farm near Woodstock. She married Marvin Schneider on June 18, 1946.
Gertrude was a longtime member of the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed being a rural mail carrier and did so for many years. She enjoyed spending her winters in Texas, camping, fishing, jeep trips, reading, crocheting, and watching the Rockies play baseball.
She is survived by her children Peggy Ferron, Shirley (John) Skinner, Lois (Dennis) House, Gary (Gaye) Schneider, Connie (Clay) Lupton and Larry (Cheryl) Schneider; 11 grandchildren; 34 great- grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Gertrude is survived by eight of her siblings: Annetta Legler, Emma Jasper, Sophie Schoolmeester, Milly Van Wyke, Julie Kreun, Tony Veldhuizen, Bob Veldhuizen, and Marvin Veldhuizen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin, a granddaughter, Erin, a grandson, Samuel, and six brothers: John, Albert, Arnold, Bernard, Casey, and Roger Veldhuizen.
