SCOTT SPRONK

June 16, 1971 – February 14, 2023

A memorial service for Scott Spronk, 51, of Pella, Iowa, was held Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at Third Church in Pella.

Scott Elliott Spronk was born on June 16, 1971, to Myron and Ruth (Schelhaas) Spronk in Luverne, Minnesota. Scott graduated from Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton, Minn., and attended Willmar Community College. He was famous (sort of) for his left-handed hook shot.

On June 6, 1998, Scott married Elise Huisken in Edgerton. They lived in Edgerton for 7 years where Scott worked for Wassink Electric for 12 years. He also enjoyed volunteering on the Edgerton Fire Department.

In 2005, Scott, Elise, and Bennett moved to Pella, Iowa. He agreed to moving to Iowa as long as Elise could promise that they would never become Hawkeye fans. Scott was employed by Van Maanen Electric when first moving to Iowa. He later worked several years for De Jong Doors and enjoyed the fast-paced work. He recently began working at Pella Regional Health Center in Plant Operations. This provided new challenges for Scott, as well as climate-control which was appreciated.

Scott loved being a dad to Bennett and Cooper from the moment he became one. He was quick to play with his boys, whether it be with cars, trains, animals, or playing sports when the boys got older. He coached several of their teams and loved watching them do what they loved. His boys and wife were a priority in his life, as was cooking delicious meals for them and other family members. He had a knack for making others laugh with his unique and sarcastic sense of humor.

Scott loved playing golf and basketball, as well as watching sporting events on TV. He was a huge Duke fan which leveled out the struggles of being a Minnesota sports fan. He loved going to games with his friends and family.

During his years in Edgerton, Scott was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. After moving to Pella, he was a member of Third Church. His relationship with Jesus grew at Third Church and he often commented that he was grateful for his church.

Scott passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2023, at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 51.

Scott’s memory will be kept alive by his wife, Elise, and through the legacy he left their children, Bennett and Cooper. Scott will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Mike and Ruth, two sisters and their husbands, Cara and Jason Perkins and Amanda and Tony Petz, and his mother-in-law, Fran Huisken, and in-laws, Chris and Lori Huisken. He will also be remembered by many cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family and dear friends.

Scott was preceded in death by an infant sister, Melanie, and his father-in-law, Lyle Huisken.
