JORDYCE “JORDY” E. SCHOLTEN

March 20, 1946 – September 28, 2022
Jordyce “Jordy” E. Scholten, 76, of Pipestone, Minnesota, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the Pipestone County Medical Center.
Funeral services were held October 4, 2022, at Christ the King Free Lutheran Church, Pipestone. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton, Minnesota.
Jordyce Elida Scholten was born March 20, 1946, to Obert and Aagot (Hytjan) Udstuen in Tyler, Minnesota. Born the fourth of five children, Jordyce, or Jordy, as she is mainly known, enjoyed growing up on the farm with her siblings. She loved to play church or school with her brother Chuck, especially since she was the “teacher.” She also loved to dance with her big brother Bob. She learned the value of hard work from her parents and especially how to cook and keep an extremely clean house.
Jordy met Erv Eugene Scholten when she was a young teenager but didn’t start dating him seriously until after he served in the armed services. Erv and Jordy just celebrated 56 years of marriage on September 3, 2022. They were blessed with three children: Jeff (Marci), Mike (Lisa), and Paul (Melissa) and also 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jordy loved to play board games such as Qwirkle and was passionate about beating her children and grandchildren at it. In her younger years of marriage, she was an avid reader and sports fan. She enjoyed watching and cheering on the Vikings and Twins.
She worked as a secretary for 35 years at the First National Bank and Kozlowski Insurance. Later she worked at the Hartquist Funeral Home as a hostess giving care and grace to those who were going through what her family is experiencing now.
She took great joy in serving and volunteered for 15 years at the hospital in the pre-op waiting room where she would sit with loved ones of patients; serving them coffee, offering a listening ear, or just being present as a friend.
Jordy is lovingly survived by her husband, Erv; three sons, Jeff (Marci) of Urbandale, Iowa, Mike (Lisa) of Battle Lake, Minnesota, and Paul (Melissa) of Erie, Colorado; 20 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren,
She is survived by her sister, Colleen Rosenthal. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Jaimeson; and brothers, Bob Udstuen and Chuck Udstuen.
It is hard to put into words Jordy’s character. She was loving. She was gentle yet firm in her faith in Jesus and belief in her family. She was a lady yet incredibly tough in her ability to withstand pain and loss. She forgave easily, encouraged constantly, and listened attentively. Frankly, she is a hero to many of us who were blessed to be in her life.
