ROY VANDEN BOSCH

February 15, 1942 – July 15, 2022

Roy Vanden Bosch of Anthem, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his home on July 15, 2022.  He was 80 years old.  Arrangements are still pending but the funeral will be held in Chino, California, and he will be laid to rest next to his first wife, Lou, at Bellevue Memorial Park in Ontario, California.

Roy was born in Edgerton on February 15, 1942, and was the eldest of five children born to Ed and Florence Vanden Bosch.  He went to the Edgerton Christian Elementary School in Edgerton and graduated from Southwest Christian High School in 1960.  Within a few years, Roy moved to southern California where he worked construction and married his high school love, Luetta Vander Steen of Leota.  He shortly moved back to northwest Iowa where he worked for Big 4, a large feed company in Sheldon, Iowa, and then moved back to the Edgerton area.  He spent the next 15 years farming with his brother Rob and owned the elevator in Hardwick, Minn., and later Trosky, Minn.

In 1984, Roy and his family moved to southern California again, where he worked for a trucking company/freight brokerage for a couple of years before starting his own business of the same type.  He held that position until retirement.

During this time, in 1999, his wife of 37 years passed away.  In 2002, Roy married Helen Kreun, a widow and a longtime friend of theirs.  After retiring in 2008, Roy moved to Visalia, Calif., near his daughter, Carmen, before moving to Anthem, for health reasons in 2015.  He and Helen lived in Anthem until her passing in 2019 and his passing in July, 2022.  Roy had received open heart surgery in May of 2021 to repair a faulty heart valve and never fully recovered from the surgery.

He is survived by his mother, Florence, who resides in Edgebrook, and his four siblings, Maxine Cook, Rob Vanden Bosch, Iva (Ken) Lane and Mari (Wayne) Kooiman.  He is also survived by four children, Shane (Audrey) Vanden Bosch, Carmen (Sam) Knevelbaard, Mike (Ceann) Kreun, and Matt (Kylie) Kreun; nine grandchildren: Jessica, Brianna, and Jacob Vanden Bosch,  Alexa (Matt) Herringshaw, Hunter (Savanah) Knevelbaard, Vanessa and Sophia Knevelbaard, Brant (Courtney) Kreun, Natalie and Lily Kreun as well as several great-grandchildren (with a couple more expected soon).

He is preceded in death by his first wife Luetta, and his second wife Helen, as well as his father, Edward, his sister-in-law, Shirley Vanden Bosch, his brother-in-law, Don Cook, and his nephew Darron West.
