ARDYCE SCHOLTEN

November 5, 1942 – May 22, 2022

A Celebration of Life service for Ardyce Lee Scholten, 79, of Lakewood, Calif., was held Thursday, June 2, 2022, at First Christian Reformed Church in Bellflower, Calif., with Pastors Zach Candenberg and Aaron Solomon-Mills officiating. She died May 22, 2022, in Long Beach, Calif.

Ardyce Lee Lolkus was born in Slayton, Minn., on November 5, 1942, to Arthur and Grace Lolkus. She was the eldest of four girls. Ardyce lived in Chandler, Minn., and graduated from Chandler High School in 1960. When she was 18 or 19, she, along with other girls from Chandler and Edgerton, went to Stewarts School of Hair Styling, a beauty school in Sioux Falls, S.D. After graduating in the spring of 1961, they went to Minneapolis and roomed together, getting jobs at the same salon.

After some time, Ardyce moved to California and stayed with her uncle and aunt in Hawthorne. Soon afterwards, her family moved to Bellflower, Calif., and she moved there as well. She worked as a nurse’s aide and physical therapy aide.

In August 1965, she met her husband, John Scholten, on a blind date recommended by two others. John called her and that was that! They were married six months later on  February 25, 1966, at Bethel Reformed Church, now Encounter.

John and Ardyce had three daughters: Krista, the oldest, was born on September 9, 1967, and twins Kelly and Shelly were born July 31, 1969. Ardyce loved being a wife and mother of three, though at first, there was a lot of crying and diapers! It wasn’t long before she was supporting them with school, junior choir, music, and youth. Years later, three sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild joined the scene. She loved going to all their sports and music events, even when it meant traveling to their events in her wheelchair. However, her grandchildren knew that her greatest support of them was her daily prayers for each and every one.

Ardyce loved to travel by car and motorhome and covered most of the USA. She was a faithful church member at Bell One for fifty years. She loved her church and church family. Over the years she was involved in ministries such as Coffee Break, Homework Connection, Ramona Guest Home Bible Study, Calvinettes, VBS, and Sunday school. Her greatest joy in life was loving and serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
