KENNETH BLOM

Kenneth “Ken” W. Blom, 69, of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Dougherty Hospice.
His memorial service was at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Interment was at Hills of Rest Cemetery.
Kenneth Wayne Blom was born on September 23, 1952, in Pipestone, Minn., to Richard and Hildred (Sas) Blom. He was baptized at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, Minn. The family lived on a farm near Leota and he attended Leota Christian School. The family moved to Denver, Colo., for a few years and then returned to a different farm near Edgerton, Minn. He graduated from Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton in 1971. After high school, he worked on the farm with his dad for a few years and had various other jobs before moving to Sioux Falls. He worked at Meilman’s Meat Packing before working at John Morrell for 35 years and retiring at age 62.
Ken and Deb were married June 9, 1984, at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. They were blessed with their son, David. They have been members at Faith since 1984. In less than a month they would have been married 38 years.
Ken had two sons prior to his marriage to Deb; Rick and Kirk. Ken loved spending time with his wife, Deb, and treasured his wife and family.
Ken and Deb have been vendors at the Siouxland Renaissance Festival since it began over 20 years ago. Ken was an amazing woodworker and spent many hours in his shop making shields, swords, and many other wood weapons for kids and kids at heart. For decades they were vendors at fairs at Sleepy Hollow Sports Park, Des Moines, Iowa, Bellevue Berry Farm, Bellevue, Nebr., the Amana Colonies, Middle Amana, Iowa, and Riverssance in Sioux City, Iowa, and were blessed for the many life-long friendships they made. Huzzah!!!!!
Ken was a bowler, and a lifelong Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan! He participated in the Faith Lutheran softball team. He liked archery, and enjoyed fishing at Lake of the Woods in Minnesota. He loved going on vacations, cruises, and visiting Branson, Mo., with Deb. Ken and Deb spent many summers in their camper while traveling to Renaissance fairs.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Deb Blom; sons, David (Sara) Blom, Rick Blom, and Kirk (Shannon) Blom, all of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ivan (Aletha) Blom of Parker, Colo., and Leland (Karon) Blom of Pipestone, Minn.; his brother-in-law, Larry (Theresa) Gimbel of Milesville, S.D.; his loving four-legged companion, Allie; along with a host of many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ken was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Hildred (Sas) Blom; his brother, Darwin Blom; and his father and mother in-law, Alvin and Mildred (Priebe) Gimbel.
