STANLEY VANDER MATEN

July 8, 1933 – May 11, 2022

Stanley Glen Vander Maten, 88, of Leota, Minn., died Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota with Pastor Michael Scott officiating. Burial with full military honors was  in the Leota Community Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Russell Albers, Michael Albers, Brett Albers, Robert Faber, Todd Faber, Damon Vander Maten, Jace Vander Maten, and Mitchell Dowie.

Honorary casket bearers were Heather Wassing, Abbie Vander Maten, Brianna Van’t Hul, Mara Grootenboer, Emily Rich, Mariah Jansma, Myah Vander Maten, and Kali Vander Maten..

He was born July 5, 1933, on the family farm on the end of Moulton Township, Murray County. Stan attended the Leota Christian School until he began at Southwest Christian School in Edgerton. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.                             

Stan married Marlys Prins on November 5, 1954, at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. In 1955, the couple began farming on the family farm in Moulton Township and continued to farm until 1998, when they moved into Leota. 

He was a member of the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota, the church counsel, the Southwest Christian School Board, the Co-op Oil Board and the Edgerton American Legion. He also enjoyed many years of wintering in Arizona where they met many friends. Stan also enjoyed many years and made many good memories hunting. 

Stan is survived by his wife, Marlys, Edgerton; five children, Debra and Lloyd Albers, Sioux Falls, SD; Darla Faber, Luverne; Scott Vander Maten and Dean Ottman, Cape Coral, FL; Steven and Lisa Vander Maten, Edgerton; and DeeAnn and Terry Jansma, Doon, IA; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda Beyenhof, Luverne; and a sister-in-law, Lorraine Vander Maten, Corson, SD. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Merlyn and John Jr., son-in-law, Robert Faber, on February 8, 1999; and a great-grandson, Kyle Robert Faber, on January 11, 2008.
