Lloyd Wayne Punt was born to Henry and Wilhelmina (Vande Berg) Punt on August 22, 1937, in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he was raised and received his education. On September 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to Gracia Vande Kamp in Sioux Center. Following their marriage, they resided in Sioux Center where he worked at various jobs in the field of agriculture, hoping to someday buy a farm of his own. In 1960 they moved to an acreage west of Sioux Center where they had a large flock of laying hens, rented 80 acres of cropland, and started a very small dairy herd, while still working full time in town. In 1969 their dreams came true, and they bought their own farm south of Pipestone, Minn. They moved there with 3 kids, 18 cows, 1 dog, and began building the dairy they always wanted. Within a few years, that herd had grown to over 100 cows. Later, they sold the dairy herd and Lloyd worked at Bayliner Marine for a few years, and then enjoyed several years working part-time at Pipestone Grain. Lloyd and Gracia were also the custodians at the Christian Reformed Church in Pipestone for three years.
Following a heart attack, Lloyd became a resident of Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone on December 26, 2019. On June 7, 2021, Lloyd suffered another heart attack, with pneumonia and entered Pipestone County Medical Center and was transferred to Pipestone County Hospice House on June 14, where he passed away peacefully on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 22 days.
Lloyd was a member of the Pipestone Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon. He liked being outdoors, doing yard work for himself and his city neighbors, and he enjoyed traveling. For a number of years, he enjoyed draft horses and participated in parades and wagon trains, always willingly giving rides to those who were interested. For many years, Lloyd and Gracia spent their winter months in Apache Junction, Ariz., where he enjoyed being involved in all the activities of the park. He was always willing to help anyone who needed it, and he had a cheerful, outgoing personality.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Gracia Punt of Pipestone; three children, Gary (Coleen) Punt of Edgerton, Minn., Larry (Arlene) Punt of Edgerton, and Linda (Gene) Boersma of Pipestone; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, LeRoy Punt of Sioux Center; one sister, Dorothy (Curtis) Van Briesen of Sioux Center; one sister-in-law, Arlene Bidwell of Sioux Center; and one brother-in-law, Lawrence Groen of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ralph, Donald, and Henry; one sister, Audrey Groen; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Punt and Alvina Punt.
