LYLE J. HUISKEN

July 17, 1943 – January 14, 2021

Lyle J. Huisken, age 77, of Poinciana, Florida, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Keck Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif.  A private family service will be held in Pella, Iowa.

Lyle Jay Huisken was born on July 17, 1943, to Joe and Elizabeth Huisken in Edgerton, Minnesota. Lyle graduated from Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, where he was a member of the first four-year graduating class.

On August 14, 1964, Lyle married Fran Bos in Pella. Following college, Lyle and Fran moved to Edgerton, where he taught English and Literature classes at Southwest Christian High School for 10 years. During his teaching career, Lyle developed a passion for photography while working as the faculty sponsor for the yearbook. In 1974, Lyle and Fran opened the doors to Huisken Photography on Main Street in Edgerton. During the next 30 years, Lyle photographed the weddings, senior, and family portraits of thousands of residents in the region. His inclination toward perfectionism served him well in his art, as he caringly photographed clients and then spent hours in the studio “retouching” the photos. The stories that accompanied the photos brought tremendous joy to Lyle’s life.

He was an active member of the Edgerton community, the highlight of which may have been chairing the Dutch Festival committee in the early 1980s. He took great pride in his hometown and the many wonderful relationships developed over coffee at the “lunch booth” and Leader Cafe. During his years in Edgerton, Lyle was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and Bethel Christian Reformed Church. After selling the photography studio, Lyle and Fran moved to Poinciana, and spent significant time visiting their children and grandchildren in Iowa and California.

Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Fran, and his children, Chris and Lori Huisken, and Elise and Scott Spronk. His grandchildren, Gabriel, Bennett, Elizabeth, and Cooper, will always remember the love of their grandpa. Eduardo Klautau and his family from Brazil were loved by Lyle and they will miss him dearly. Lyle will be fondly remembered by his two brothers and their wives, Eugene and Twila Huisken and Keith and Carmen Huisken, and his in-laws, Jerry and Jean Bos and Shirley Bos. He will also be remembered by many cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family, and dear friends. Lyle was predeceased by his brother, Roger Huisken, and his brother-in-law, Tony Bos.

Gifts in Lyle’s memory may be directed to Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton and Dordt University.
