WESLEY SCHAAP

April 21, 1935 – November 30, 2020

Wesley Wayne Schaap was born on the Chandler, Minn., family farm to John and Lyda (Lubben) Schaap and married his loving wife, Karen Sue Smith, on June 14, 1980.

Wes served in the US Army in France, worked as an RN at Pine Rest for 38 years, and as an MSW therapist for the next 25 years. Wes was at one with God and nature, loved music and singing in the choir. He enjoyed his family, faith, friends, fun adventures, golf, sailing, dancing, travel, coffee klatch, stories, sports, reading and relaxing on the porch swing. Wes was friendly, caring, and compassionate. We will miss his great sense of humor, listening ear, and the willingness to share his time, help, and wisdom.

Wes died November 30, 2020, at the age of 85. He is now singing heavenly praises for all eternity as he sailed to the best golf course ever. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

Wes appreciated Captain Richard who always had his sailboat ready. Wesley lived the abundant life.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Schaap; brothers, Lester, and Lloyd (Luella) Schaap; his previous wife, Elisabeth Klifman; children, Sheryl (Mark) Offringa, Jennifer (Jim) Jensen, Yvonne Matthis, Marian (Al) Young, Michael (Audra) Schaap; Scott (Amy) Cogswell, Christina Balfoort, Theresa (Aaron) Loew, and Marcy Spearow. Papa said his 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren were a light in his life.

Wesley was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion, Harold (Wilma), Arnie (Mavis), and sister-in-law, Lorraine Schaap.
