Erma spent her youth on a farm near Leota, Minnesota, with five brothers and three sisters. She went to a country school. She told of all the fun times they had growing up and enjoyed the rides on the family pony. Erma enjoyed music, and the family spent many hours singing around the piano.

Erma married Nellen Beukelman on January 16, 1941. They had three children, Janice, Robert, and Bradford. Nellen passed away in November of 1954. In February of 1964 she married Steven Pool and gained three step-children, Owen, Lloyd, and Donna. Steve passed away in March of 1995.

Erma loved company and always had a bed available for family and friends. When relatives visited, she would gather the family over and had lots of laughs over stories told.

Erma was a member of the ladies group at church and also the Extension Craft Club. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers of which many were used for bouquets at church. Erma loved to have friends over for coffee or a game of cards. She often served the delicious pies she was known for. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and was thrilled with their visits.
