DONALD HOFKAMP

July 23, 1939 – October 14, 2020

Donald H. Hofkamp, 81, of Lansing, Ill., went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

A graveside funeral service was held for Don at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020, at South Bingham Cemetery near St. Johns, Mich., with Pastor Sue Alvera officiating.

Donald was born in Edgerton, Minnesota, the son of Garry and Helen (Grifhorst) Hofkamp. Don proudly served in the US Air Force. After returning from the service he worked at a local co-op, and for Pete Kooiman, a farmer in the Edgerton area.

In 1967 Don made his way to Lansing, Mich., to work for General Motors. He retired in 1997 with 30 years of service. Don enjoyed playing and listening to gospel and country ‘Blue Grass’ music, traveling, and riding motorcycles. Don was a talented woodworker making furniture for family and friends.

On August 20, 1976, he married Helen Sali, who survives him. Also surviving are three sons, Brian (Nicki) Hofkamp, Matthew Hofkamp, Robert (Kip) Good; two daughters, Carol (Ron) Gast and Sallie (Gary) Heroux; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Marcella Feuerhelm, and a brother, Vernon “Bud” Hofkamp.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Elaine Hofkamp.

The family will be forever grateful to the nurses and caregivers at Sparrow Home Hospice for their dedication and love they showed Don in his last days here on earth.
