Building project update

Significant progress is underway on the schools’ building project, with construction visibly ramping up all over the campus.
Superintendent Buckridge noted a design oversight involving the old building’s exterior wall, which was once an interior space connecting to the Dutchmen’s Den. Options for addressing the unfinished exterior are being reviewed with RA Morton.
Footings for the new addition are scheduled to be poured the week of July 14, starting on the west side. Depending on labor availability, work may begin earlier on the preschool (east) side.
One of the most critical upgrades involves the installation of the fire suppression system. The main line of this system will be installed this summer, from the north side of the building near the gym and running through the north hallway to connect to the new addition. This work will be handled by Midwest Mechanical and is estimated to cost between $300,000 and $350,000. A similar system will be installed in the new building next year.
Other construction work will include asbestos abatement in the high school band room and a southwest classroom, also scheduled for mid-July. On the preschool side, a precast concrete panel will be used to seal off access to the space under the existing structure. This was chosen for its waterproofing efficiency and faster installation compared to traditional block.
