2nd Grade News
Mrs. Van Schepen and Mrs. Van Iperen
Wow! We can’t believe we have been in 2nd grade for 100 days already! It feels like we just started, but we have learned so much and had so much fun. In the last week of January, we celebrated with games, treats, and fun activities all about the number 100. Each student was encouraged to come to school with 100 items on a shirt. What a fun variety of t-shirts! It was a great day!
In Science, we spent some time using the balance scales. We made a scientific estimation as to which of 2 objects would weigh the most. Then we tested it on a balance scale. We had made some great predictions!
February is our “I Love to Read” month. The varsity basketball teams and cheerleaders were invited to come and read a book to us. It was great fun to listen to them read!
3rd grade news
In Social Studies, the third graders learned about goods and services, and what the difference is between them. They had to come up with examples of things that we see every day. The third graders were able to explain that goods are items that are purchased, and services are work people do for others such as a barber. In the end, they did a project in which they had to design their own business. They had to come up with a business plan and make a business poster. Some businesses sold goods such as cookies, bars, bookmarks, bracelets, and homemade play-doh. Other businesses sold services such as face painting, gymnastics lessons, soccer lessons, volleyball lessons, and kickball lessons. Students from Kindergarten through 5th grade and parents of 3rd graders were our customers. The third graders had a blast doing this fun project!
Josh Groen is reading to 2nd graders Tennasyn Bridgewater, Remington Hanenburg, Kyler Schmidt and Bo Wheeler for “I Love to Read” month.
