MARIAN MARGARET BRAA

September 3, 1928 – July 13, 2024

Marian Braa, age 95, of Luverne, Minnesota, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. Visitation was held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the Hartquist Funeral Home – Luverne Chapel and a private family service was held. Interment took place at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.

Marian Margaret Braa was born September 3, 1928, to Albert and Alta (Bendt) Lorenzen at the family farm outside of Edgerton, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant in rural Jasper, Minnesota, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, Minnesota, in 1948. She was raised on the farm and attended Edgerton Public School, graduating with the class of 1947. She married the boy she knew all of her life, Donald Braa, on October 15, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Luverne.

Marian was a homemaker to their five children until their youngest was in school. At that time, Marian took a job as a cook at the Luverne High School where she worked for the next 18 years. The couple moved to Pipestone, Minnesota, in 1980 where Marian was employed at Pamida. They returned to Luverne in 1986 and Marian worked at the Super 8 Motel in Luverne. They enjoyed wintering in Havasu City, Arizona, for many years.

Donald preceded Marian in death on December 13, 2001. Marian continued to reside in Luverne. In late 2014 she moved to The Oaks. On July 13, 2024, Marian passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne, Minnesota, at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Marian was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luverne. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Marian enjoyed playing all kinds of card games, especially Pinochle. She loved to travel and head to the casinos with family, friends, or make the trip by herself. Marian was a woman who knew how to socialize and enjoy life.

She is remembered by her children, Barbara (Douglas) Hasert of Loveland, Colorado, Bernita (James) Wichmann of Balaton, Minnesota, Bruce (Janet) Braa of Loveland, Barton (Becky) Braa of Weston, Missouri, and Burdell (Monica) Braa of Luverne; 13 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Lorna Lorenzen of Luverne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; grandson, Troy Hasert; parents, Albert and Alta; sister, LaVonne Scott; two brothers, Verdell and Melvin Lorenzen; brother-in-law, Dale Scott; and sister-in-law, Terry Lorenzen.
