Geraldine Constance (Giordano) Mouw was born August 10, 1939, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Gerald and Felicia Giordano (Tartaglia). Gerry grew up on the east coast in New Jersey and the Catskills of New York with her parents and two sisters, Eleanor Weintraub and Eileen Brooks. She planned on attending Ithaca College in New York, but at the last minute received a vocal scholarship from Hope College in Holland, Michigan ,and chose to attend. She later transferred and graduated from Calvin College after two years with a teaching degree. She taught music at Hudsonville Christian Elementary School in West Michigan, while her husband finished his degree.

While at Calvin she met and married Rev. Gordon Dale Mouw of Holland, Michigan. They were married on August 29, 1959. Their marriage was blessed with 4 children: Christopher, Steven, Karen, and Timothy. Gerry served faithfully alongside her husband Gordon in many churches in the United States and Canada. She was a choir director, GEMS leader, Bible study leader, Sunday school teacher, and young people’s leader. As a young people’s leader, she will go down in history as the only minister’s wife to “steal” toilet paper from church to T.P the elders’ homes.

While serving in Pella, Iowa, Gerry was instrumental in starting a mission trip to Cary, Miss. Gerry had a passion for the people in that area of Mississippi and shared that passion with many Serve groups from Pella, Sanborn, and Luverne for many years. Gerry also enjoyed her years working at Dordt University. She loved being around  the students, an academic environment, and the deep commitment to Christian Education at the collegiate level. If you knew Gerry, you were blessed by her enthusiasm, compassion, and her love for Jesus.

Gordon and Gerry served in the following churches: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Garfield, New Jersey; Trenton, New Jersey; Crookston, Minnesota; Thunder Bay, Ontario; St. Thomas, Ontario; Rusk, Michigan; Pella, Iowa; and Sanborn, Iowa. Gerry will be remembered as a vivacious servant of God. Even though her work on earth is done, her memories of serving and loving others lives on. Well done good and faithful servant.

“But yet EVEN MORE… we know that if anything was accomplished; if our work did any good, if anyone comes to know The Savior, it was not of us but of Christ. WE know that salvation is all of God! And to Him and Him alone be the glory!” (Gerry’s word’s taken from the 1996 Cary Serve team booklet)

I looked up and I saw the Lord a-comin! ALLELUIA, HE IS HERE!

Gerry is lovingly remembered by her children: Christopher Mouw, Steven Mouw, Karen (Greg) Dyk, and Timothy Mouw; seven grandchildren: Gordon, Annika, Vivian, Willem, Gerrid, Katelyn, and Jason; and five great-grandchildren: Norah, Blake, Jacob, Hattie, and Ophelia.

Gerry is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gordon, her sister, Eleanor Weintraub, and her brother-in-law, Bernard Weintraub.
