ALVINA BRONDSEMA
February 12, 1934 – June 13, 2024
Funeral services for Alvina Brondsema, age 90, of Edgerton, Minn., formerly of Platte, S.D., were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at New Holland Christian Reformed Church, New Holland, S.D. Burial was in the New Holland Cemetery following the funeral service.
Alvina Brondsema was born on February 12, 1934. She was the youngest of four children born to Fred and Alice (Pheifer) Dykman. Alvina was baptized and made profession of faith at Platte Christian Reformed Church, Platte, S.D. She attended a country school.
Alvina was united in marriage to Harold Brondsema on August 14, 1957, at Platte Christian Reformed Church, Platte. To this union, three children were born, Arnold, Janice, and David. They made their home on a farm outside of New Holland. They were members of New Holland Christian Reformed Church, New Holland. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Coffee Break.
Alvina was a devoted farm wife, and took care of her family. She loved to spend time with family, and friends and she loved to bake and play piano. She loved to play Rummikub and Dominoes and do puzzles.
Alvina moved in 2017 to Edgebrook Apartments in Edgerton, to be closer to family. She moved into Edgebrook Care Center in 2022.
Alvina is survived by children: Arnie (Deb) Brondsema of Beaver Creek, Minn., Jan (Al) Schelhaas of Edgerton, and Dave (Heather) Brondsema of Huron, S.D.; 8 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Hermina Visser, Manhattan, Mont., and many nephews and nieces.
Alvina was preceded in death by Fred and Alice (parents), Harold (husband), Sam and Jennie Brondsema (parents-in- law), Jennie (Chester) Bultsma (sister and brother-in- law), Kelly Dykman (brother), Dick Visser (brother-in-law), Richard (Esther) Brondsema (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Nellie (Bill) Kuipers (sister-in-law and brother-in-law), Dorothy (Tony) Prins (sister-in-law and brother-in-law).
