ALVIN BERNARD VANDEN BOSCH

Alvin Vanden Bosch, 96, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Funeral services were held Monday, June 3, 2024, 11:00 a.m., at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Edgerton, with Pastor Marlin Van Schepen officiating. Leland and Linda Vanderaa sang Gentle Shepherd and the congregation sang If You But Trust In God To Guide You, When Peace Like A River, and By The Sea Of Crystal, accompanied by Brenda Kleinjan, organist. Pallbearers were family members.
Alvin Bernard Vanden Bosch was born on June 22, 1927, near Edgerton to Tom H. and Grace (Tinklenberg) Vanden Bosch. Al grew up on the family farm, attending country school through grade 4, and Edgerton Christian through 10th grade. He graduated from Western Christian High in Hull, Iowa, in 1945. He went on to receive his teaching degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
On June 17, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Rosella M. Brink. Al and Rose moved to North Haledon, N.J., where he taught at Eastern Christian High School for 2 years. He went on to serve in teaching and administration roles at Christian schools in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Kanawha, Iowa, Orange City, Iowa, and South Holland, Ill. His final role involved lobbying for state aid to non-public schools in Illinois and Indiana.
Following his retirement, Al, Rose, and their daughter Laurie moved to a duplex they built in Edgerton. He and Rose moved to Edgebrook Assisted Living in 2021, where he resided until his death on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Al served as an elder in many of the churches they were members of and led many Bible studies. Al’s faith in his Lord was evident in his family and church life, as well as his dedication to his career.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 75 years, his three daughters; Lynn (Russ) Hollander of Palos Park, Ill., Laurel Vanden Bosch of Edgerton, and LeAnn Vanden Bosch and husband Nicolas Cheston of Winona, Minn.; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Hennie Van Essen, Dottie Wiersma, Thelma Hoogland; brother Jim Vanden Bosch and wife, Debbie; brother-in-law Cliff Mulder, and sister-in-law Jo Brink.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother- and father-in-law Jerry and Johanna Brink; sister Florence Hibma and brother-in-law Clarence; sister Helena Mulder, and brothers-in-law Clarence Van Essen, Marvin Hoogland, Jack Wiersma, Marion (Nellie) Brink, Leslie (Lorraine Brink/Berghuis), Ron Brink, and sister-in-law Viola De Boer and husband Lester.
