ALLEN HARRIS WALHOF
November 21, 1934 – April 30, 2024
Allen Walhof, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Edgerton, Minn. Pastor Marlin Van Schepen was officiant and Richard Bakker was organist. The congregation sang All That I Am I Owe To Thee, Oh God, Our Help In Ages Past, and It Is Well With My Soul. Allen’s grandchildren were pallbearers and interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.
Allen Harris Walhof was born to Henry and Jennie (Vanden Bosch) Walhof on November 21, 1934, on a farm in Rock County, Minnesota, near Edgerton. He attended Southwest Christian High School. On November 16, 1954, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Greenland until November 15, 1956. He then returned to Edgerton where he worked as a blacksmith.
On June 5, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lavonne De Groot at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. Following their marriage, they lived in Edgerton and Al owned his own feed grinding business. In 1964, he started farming northwest of Edgerton where they lived and raised their family. When they retired in 1999, they moved to Edgerton and Al continued to help his son on the farm.
Allen was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton. He was also a member of the Kenneth F. Kingsley American Legion Post 42 in Edgerton. He enjoyed spending his spare time fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins.
He is lovingly remember by his wife, Lavonne Walhof of Edgerton, and six children: Henry “Hiene” (Karen) Walhof of Edgerton; Alyce (Rich) Bakker of Everett, Wash.; Diane (James) Stryd of Spokane, Wash.; Nancy (Mike) Landhuis of Orange City, Iowa; Wendy Bowlin of Snohomish, Wash.; Sue (Craig) Stephenson of Clear Lake, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Fred (Chris) Walhof; sister Bernice (Elroy) Post; sisters-in-law: Verla (Duane) Mulder and Mayme (Art) Spronk.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bernard Walhof.
