School News From Edgerton Public School

The Edgerton Dutchmen speech team has been gearing up for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Tournament as the regular season came to a close on March 26.
The speech team this year consists of seven highly energetic and humorous individuals including Mayori Godoy, Gabriel Lopez Garcia, Keira Cruz Medina, Kaitlyn Van Otterloo, Jael Lopez Garcia, Lydia Skime, and Joey Fleischman. These All-Speech team members will be competing at the Sub-section Tournament on March 28 at the Windom High School.
Speech has 13 categories from various interpretation and public address categories. The EHS team member categories are: Mayori Godoy – Drama, Gabriel Lopez Garcia – Discussion, Keira Cruz Medina – Humorous, Kaitlyn Van Otterloo – Storytelling, Jael Lopez Garcia – Extemporaneous Reading, Lydia Skime – Extemporaneous Reading, and Joey Fleischman – Humorous Interpretation.
All the students did well throughout the season. Some highlights of the season included Medina earning 2nd place in Humorous Interpretation at the Marshall Mini Spectacular. Fleischman took 2nd place in the same category at the Redwood Valley Cardinal Junior High Tournament.
At the RTR Junior High Invitational, Garcia took first place in extemporaneous reading and Medina took first place in Humorous Interpretation, with Fleischman taking second in that category. Van Otterloo took second in Storytelling.
At the RTR Varsity Invitational, Garcia took second in Extemporaneous Reading.
Last Saturday at the Minneota Tournament, Kaitlyn Van Otterloo earned an Excellence Award in Storytelling. Keira Cruz Medina took 3rd palace in Humorous. Mayori Godoy earned an Excellence Award in Drama. Jael Lopez Garcia took 3rd place in Extemporaneous Reading, and Lydia Skime earned an Excellence Award in Extemporaneous Reading.
This week Tuesday, March 28, the students will compete in the Sub-section Speech Tournament.
