Feikema Foils Blackjacks
By Skip Hunter –
The Edgerton-Southwest Minnesota Christian Dutchmen closed out the home portion of their schedule with a game against the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks last Tuesday. The Blackjacks held a middle position in their section, so it figured the Dutchmen would have their work cut out for them. However, the home team proved equal to the task and pulled out a 3-2 victory.
The day was also slated as a benefit for injured Dutchman Dawson Vander Top and his family. A larger crowd enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, and pulled pork in order to support the Vander Tops. Even DB pitched in to help in the cause.
Both the baseball team and the softball team capped things off with victories in their respective games.
Skyler Feikema was picked to go to the hill against the Blackjacks. The junior showed his mettle, mowing down 12 visitors on strikes as he came within 1 batter of a complete game. Only the MSHSL’s “pitch count” rule took Feikema off the hill as he proved as strong at the end of the game as he was at the beginning. DB only had 6 hits and 2 walks to show for its offensive effort. Joshua Van Dam came in and struck out the only batter he faced to preserve Feikema’s win.
