Rebels down Dutchmen

By Skip Hunter –

The E/SWC Flying Dutchmen got out on the field twice last week. On a beautiful Monday they held their first full field practice. On Tuesday, with threatening weather, the Murray County Central Rebels came to town.

The game was cut short, not by weather, but by some lusty MCC hitting. The game was called after five innings as MCC led 13-1.

Josh Van Dam took the hill for E/SWC. He pitched through the line-up twice. After giving up 4 runs in the first 2 innings, MCC chased him from the mound as he gave up 4 more runs. Skylar Feikema took over but MCC liked his pitches as well, scoring 2 more runs in the third and 4 in the fifth inning. Trevin Prins got the final 2 outs for the Dutchmen.

Offensively, the game started out promising for the home team. Feikema singled, but was stealing when Prins smashed a line drive at the third baseman who grabbed and was easily able to double up Feikema. Jacob Uilk had a single as well in the first frame. In the second and third innings 5 of the 6 Dutchmen who went to the plate fanned. Uilk picked up an infield single in the 4th, reached third base, but was unable to score.
