Lolkus Moves Gun Shop To Chandler

By Jill Fennema –

Did you know that US Army field artillery soldiers were referred to as “redlegs” during the Civil War? That’s because they were distinguished by scarlet stripes down the legs of their uniform pants.

Brandon Lolkus is the owner of Red Leg Company, Inc., a firearm building and gun smithing company that is now located in Chandler.

Brandon has been in the military for the past 23 years and is still a Guardsman. While he was serving in Afghanistan, he decided to pursue gunsmith school. There was a two-year wait to get into one of the three schools that he knew of – so he had to wait for space to become available.

In 2016, he graduated from Pine Tech in Pine City, Minnesota, which is south of Duluth. He attended school there for four years, studying gunsmithing and machining.

He and his wife wanted to raise their family back home in southwest Minnesota, so they moved back to the area after he graduated and Brandon opened Red Leg Company on the outskirts of Slayton in the fall of 2016.

His business has been growing ever since, so he was planning to add onto his shop there. While he was waiting for permits, he found out that the former Chandler Discount Market building in Chandler was for sale, so he opted to make Chandler the home of his business.
