School News from Edgerton Public Grades K-2
First grade news
First grade is preparing for the 100th Day of school, which will be here in early February. Writings from the first graders about what we’ve been told to do 100 times is on page 11.
The 100th Day of School is exciting! We celebrate how much we have learned in first grade. We also have a special 100th Day giving project. The boys and girls are doing jobs to earn money towards our goal. If anyone wants to know more or help the first graders with our special project, just ask anyone in our class. We’d be happy to get you involved, too.

1st graders celebrating Martin Lutheran King Day:
Second grade news
Wow! We are halfway through second grade already! Our year has gone so fast, and we are learning so much!! Mrs. Hadler and Mrs. Gilbertson can’t believe what great readers we are becoming. And in math we know how to add and subtract double digits with and without regrouping. We also are getting very good at counting money and telling time! We love all the fun things we get to do at school. For example, Mrs. Reker comes to our room once a month to talk about having good character, and she plans a Fun Fest for us each month! Last month we had Chariot Races, and this month we had a Shoe Kick Contest and a Rock, Paper, Scissors Scramble.
Mrs. Vander Lugt’s first grade class learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. Back row (l to r): Parker Rylaarsdam, Janessa Lopez, Cooper Kooiman, Sophia Ockenga, Kira Dirksen, Azalea Alderson; middle: Genesis Tabora, Rayah Kuiper, Jaci Brockberg, Eduardo Cazares, Jared Hunter, Sean Thaemert; front: Skyler Wallenburg, Jason Rodas Hernandez, Jase Schaap (missing Haydon Hawes).
We celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day by watching a video, reading a book, and discussing his life. We also drew a picture of Martin Luther King Jr. using step-by-step directions. The first graders were very proud of their drawings! Back row (l to r): Alondra Maldonado, Mara Riley, Gwenna Keleher, and Ava Wiekeraad; middle: Alexis Herrara Ramirez, Jackson Johnson, Amira Williams, Brayson Lingen, Owen Behan, and Alejandro Puente; front row: Trace Moody, Alison Lopez Santos, Nash Post, and Kynlee Hulstein.
