Eagles Outlast The Coyotes

The SWC boys’ basketball team welcomed the Heron Lake/Fulda Coyotes to Edgerton last Friday night for a Red Rock Conference match up. The Eagles, fresh off a win against Jackson County Central, were looking to keep the momentum going. HLOF kept the game close in the first half with some long-range bombs, but could not keep the home team at bay as SWC won comfortably 90-50. Kassie Haak and Annika Dyk favored us with a nice rendition of the national anthem, and the game was on.

The visitors scored first with 1 of their 6 first-half treys. They would jump out to an 8-2 lead with the only bucket coming on a Dawson Rieck to Cole Walhof feed. Walhof had a good night to lead the Eagles with 18 points. Rieck scored next with a silky-smooth jumper. After HLOF scored again, Walhof scored on a turnaround shot followed by a drive down the lane that he finished with his left hand. He tied the score with his third consecutive basket using a Micah Schaap pass. Schaap gave the Eagles a 13-10 lead by converting an old-fashioned 3-point play.
