Huisken Retires As Chamber Secretary
On Tuesday, December 7, the Edgerton Chamber of Commerce met for the last time for 2021. Earlier this year, Betty Huisken announced her intention to retire as the Chamber secretary at the end of the year. So the Chamber board took the opportunity to thank her for all her years of service.
Betty served as the Chamber secretary/treasurer since 1996. She gave up the treasurer duties last year and Jan Schelhaas has been taking care of those things. Fred and Betty Huisken have been members of the Edgerton Chamber of Commerce since 1969, when they bought Huisken Market. They closed the store in 2016, but Betty has remained active in the chamber since that time.
Her work with the chamber has been profuse and will be missed. Jill Fennema plans to take over the secretary duties for the chamber.
The chamber board thanked Betty for her years of work and everyone enjoyed cake together.
Prior to that portion of the meeting, the chamber members reviewed the current promotions going on around town, including the “Find the Light” promotion and the “Shop at Home for $500” promotion. Next month there will be a special men’s event called Guys, Gears, and Grub. More information on that will be published in the coming weeks.
Two new board members were elected to three-year terms. Tristan Fliehe and Spencer Mesman were elected to the board. They will replace retiring members Ross Fey and Jordan Kooi.
The chamber will not meet in January. When meetings resume in February, they will be led by the new Chamber President Beth Van Dyke.
