Holiday Festivities Begin In Edgerton

There are a lot of things going on in Edgerton in the coming weeks. Christmas festivities begin tonight, Wednesday, with the Holiday Parade of Lights at 6 p.m. The parade will follow the same route as the Dutch Festival, with entries lining up on Mechanic Street and then coming down Main Street.

After the parade, there will be a tree lighting ceremony at the bank. The Chamber of Commerce purchased a tall pine tree which will be decked out in hundreds of lights. We hope that all the parade attendees can come watch the lighting ceremony. There will be carols to sing and hot cocoa and cider to drink.

On Saturday, there will be a gingerbread house contest at the Edgerton Public Library. Bring your homemade, decorated gingerbread house to the library before 10 a.m. and the library board will judge the houses. Prizes will be awarded, including gift certificates to the Edgerton Food Center. During the contest, Mrs. Claus will be reading from 11 a.m. until noon.

During the week of December 13 to 17, the holiday decorating contest will be judged. This year, the judging will be done via Facebook voting. Take a photo of your house decorations and email it to shela@edgertonenterprise.com by Dec. 11 to be included in the contest.

Later this month, shoppers will be challenged to “Find the Light of Christmas” hiding in the stores around town. This will be similar to the “Elf on a Shelf” promotion that the Chamber hosted last year. We will publish more details on this later this month.

Don’t forget to shop locally. The Shop 500 promotion is going on until Dec. 24. We will have a live Facebook drawing on Friday, Dec. 24. That’s when the winner of $500 will be drawn from the hundreds of entries that are coming in. There will also be other prizes given away that day. So shop in town and shop often!
