Five Dutchmen Given Post-Season Football Honors

By Mike Drooger –

The All-District 9 South (West Sub-District) high school 9-Man football team has been chosen and five Edgerton Flying Dutchmen were named.

The all-district players for Edgerton are: Nolan Buckridge (12), Jared Fischer (10), and Jacob Fischer (12). The honorable mention all-district players for Edgerton are: Carter Amundson (11) and Michael Gunnink (8).

Nolan Buckridge – All District

Jared Fischer – All District

Jacob Fischer – All District

Carter Amundson – Honorable Mention

Michael Gunnink – Honorable Mention

Buckridge garnered one of the most coveted awards when he was named the district’s Offensive Player of the Year, which is very impressive considering the competition.

It’s been well noted that the Dutchmen nearly didn’t field a team for 2021 because of low numbers especially in the upper grades. Even with the youth and inexperience, the Dutchmen finished 5-5, hosted a first round playoff game, and advanced to the second round.

Coach Andrew Fleischman repeatedly praised the leadership from his “Fab Four” of Buckridge, Amundson, Fischer, and Fischer as they took the young players under their collective wing and got as much out of the youngsters as anyone could hope to get. Eighth-grader Gunnink began the season with a bang vs. Madelia, rushing for nearly 200 yards, and he kept right on improving as the season progressed.

Buckridge and Jacob Fischer are seniors, but the Dutchmen will return the other three for 2022.
