Survey Says…
Two weeks ago, the Edgerton Enterprise put out a survey on Facebook asking for people to comment on funding at the Edgerton Public Library. Dena Berghorst, the director of the library, has asked the Edgerton City Council to increase the amount that they fund the library by an additional $26,000, to bring their total funding of the library to $62,000.
At last month’s city council meeting, the council looked at a preliminary 2022 budget plan that did not include that level of funding. The budget committee had allowed an additional $5,000 for the library, which would bring the total funding to $41,000 annually. Councilwoman Kathy Baker thought it should be more. The council discussed the library’s funding and wondered what a survey would show.
The survey the Edgerton Enterprise published online was very short, consisting of only five questions. There were 123 people who responded to the survey. To see a summary of the results, see the December 1st edition of the Edgerton Enterprise.
The majority of the comments given here were supportive of more funding for the library. The comments will be shared with the city council at the next meeting, which is Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. This is also the annual Truth in Taxation meeting, where the council will official set the 2022 levy. They typically also adopt the new budget at this meeting as well.
