PE school news for Pre K – 2nd
The M-W preschool class enjoyed playing with the balls during PE. They have practiced bouncing, catching, throwing and kicking the balls. They also pretended the balls were puppies, they named their puppies, took them for a walk and gave them some water.

The K and 1 classes enjoyed having PE outside. They learned the rules of the playground and some fun activities they can play at recess. They played follow the leader, 2 and 4 square, switch, hopscotch, soccer, ways to get their arms stronger while playing on the equipment and also some tag games.

First Grade
First grade has 31 students this school year.  There are 15 girls and 16 boys – that’s one of Mrs. Vander Lugt’s and Mrs. Delaney’s most balanced classes in awhile!

We have been doing lots of reading, subtracting, and discussing teamwork.  First grade is fun!

The first graders enjoyed playing Hotdog Tag. Once tagged you became a hotdog and had to lie down. There were two ways you could get back in the game; if two friends became a hotdog bun and each one laid beside you, or somebody could pretend to put ketchup on you.

Second Grade
Second grade is the best! We have enjoyed many fun days at school learning about Johnny Appleseed, fire safety, and getting to enjoy some special treats along the way. We especially enjoy reading and listening to books that help us to learn and celebrate these different things.

Our favorite fact about Johnny Appleseed was that he was friends to all people and animals as he traveled across the land spreading apple seeds and teaching others about nature. We all brought in apples and got to eat them with some yummy fruit dip.

In October we learn about fire safety and how to stay safe around different kinds of fires. The best part was getting a visit from a couple of our local firemen and getting to see the rescue truck! It was a good reminder for us to make sure we have working smoke detectors in our homes and that our families have a safe meeting place in case of a fire.

Finally, we listened to the story Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea. It is a neat story about an old man who is lonely, so he decides to get a cat to keep him company. It turns out that they like to do the same things. One thing they like to do together each morning, is have English muffins and in the afternoon, they enjoy some tea, so we did the same! We had English muffins with either jam, cream cheese, or peanut butter. What a yummy snack that was! Some of our friends learned that they really liked English muffins!
