Cross Country Competes At Adrian

The squad of Southwest Christian / Edgerton cross-country runners took part in the Adrian Dragon Invitational on Tuesday, October 12. The meet took place at the Adrian Country Club. The Red Rock Conference teams will return to this same course on Mon-day, October 18 for the conference meet. Temperatures were comfortable with just a light wind making for a decent day. Teams from 12 schools participated including some large schools like Redwood Valley, Jackson County Central and Worthington.
The girls’ junior high 2100 meter race was the first race. There were 35 runners in the event. Leading the Eagle pack and taking a 7th place finish was Hannah Masselink as she covered the course in 9:46. Kalli Blom (10:59) finished 21st. Winning the race was Alivia Letcher of Windom Area with a time of 9:08. Windom also won the team title with 20 points. Adrian / Ellsworth followed with 43.
Once again, Jayven Kooiker was the lone Eagle runner for the Junior High boys race. He covered the 1.3 mile course in 9:25 for a 21st place finish. There were 41 entries. The race winner was Asrat Bonnett from Worthington in a time of 7:48. Murray County Central / Fulda won the points battle with 27. They were followed by Windom (41), A / E (61) and Redwood Valley (85).
The next race up was the girls’ varsity 5000 meter race. There were 113 runners that competed. The top Eagle runner was Maddie Fick in 26th place, who covered the course in 23:32. The trio of Shaylee Van Essen (24:09), Kinsie Nelson (24:17) and Kierra Binford (24:38) finished in 32nd, 34th and 36th. Olivia Muyskens (25:20) was 47th. Kathryn Prins had a time of 26:51 for 69th place. Alexia Vander Pol (27:44) was 81st. The duo of Kylee Brands (28:07) and Jovienne Dilly (28:10) were 87th and 89th. Rounding out the team finishers were Ellie Decker (30:52) in 105th, Braelyn Kracht (32:40) in 108th, Annika Dyke (32:47) in 109th and Chloe Kracht (35:44) in 112th. Amanda Overgaauw from MCC / F dominated the race in 18:05 winning by 57 seconds.
