Eagles, Tigers play to a 1-1 draw

By Skip Hunter –

As the Minnesota State High School League seasons cycle through the year, last week Thursday was the beginning of the end of boys soccer. The Southwest Minnesota Christian Eagles played their last 2021 regular season game. As the Eagles do not participate in a soccer conference, the game against Marshall High School seemingly had little significance. But yet, in the MSHL, it did. The Eagles were clinging to the hope that they might get to host a first round game in Section 2A. While the MHS Tigers are not in the Eagles’ class, the game might have seeding implications. A win or a tie against the 2AA Tigers appeared to give SWC the hosting upper hand. Hosting would keep the Eagles from making 1 more long road trip this time possibly to Mankato to play the Mankato Loyola Crusaders.

The Eagles had traveled to Marshall earlier in the year to play on the carpeted MHS field. Things had not gone well in the first half that was cut short by lightning. However, the Eagles hoped getting the Tigers away from their home turf would be the ticket. The Eagles, inspired by their hopes, played well last week. While the outcome was only a 1-1 tie, it appears that it would be enough to be hosts this coming Thursday. We did not know for sure at press time.
