SCHOOL NEWS from SWC Grades K-2

Pictured: This past Monday our kindergartners enjoyed going for a walk and looking for signs of fall. It also gave us the opportunity to enjoy God’s creation and how he creates beauty in every season. Our walk led us to the city park, where we got to play with all of our classmates.

1st grade

In first grade we are learning a lot!! In math the students are becoming masters in vertical addition (1-18). They continually surprise us with their knowledge in Math and Reading. In Reading, we have read about our communities, what makes a good friend, and having pets to help better our comprehension all while learning our phonics and grammar skills.

On Grandparents Day, they were able to read books to their grandparents, which was exciting for both students and their grandparents. We were able to have Grandparents Day on Wednesday, October 6, where students completed activities with their grandparents and showed them what they had learned throughout this year already.

We are continually asking ourselves how we can stand amazed at what God has done and is doing. Whether it is standing amazed at the change of the season (see art), or learning about creation in Bible and Science, we are continually in awe of our Creator. In art we were able to create an autumn tree and write a poem about what we love about fall where students revealed their God-given creativity. With this project we discussed the wonders of creation and how still, to this day, God’s promise remains by continually changing the seasons. This tied perfectly into our Bible unit on creation.

2nd grade

The second graders are off to a great start this year.  We are reading many stories about how friends and families work together and help each other.  We appreciate the wonderful world God gave us to live in, and marvel at the creation and changing seasons.

We read the book called “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn” and saw how the autumn leaves are changing color and falling from the trees. Just as the young girl in the story walks through the forest and town, seeing all the leaves and their changing color, we walk outdoors in the autumn weather celebrating our great Creator!  We know that only God can change the seasons, what power he has!  We also know that “as long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.” It also says in Isaiah 40: 8: “The grass withers, and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever”.  We are so thankful for that!

We gathered a variety of leaves and turned them into animal pictures.  The students came up with some very creative ideas!  We had a lot of colors, shapes and sizes to work with.  The students created fish, turtles, elephants, tigers and butterflies!  We are beauty creators!
