Passing On Love For Art

Alexia Sonnek is the new art teacher at Edgerton Pubic School. She will teach various art classes to students in grades 7 through 12.

Alexia is the oldest of seven children. She is originally from La Crescent, Minn. That is where most of her family resides. “I may be a long way from home, but I’m hoping to make Edgerton my new home,” she said.

This is her first year of teaching. She graduated in December of 2020 from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. Since that time, she has worked as a substitute art teacher at Amherst High School near Stevens Point, Wisc.

“I love art, and I love passing on my knowledge of it to others,” Alexia said. “It is so fun to see projects go from a blank canvas to a piece of real artwork that the student artist can be proud of.”

Her love of art spills over into drama and performance. She was a dance instructor for seven years, a waterskier for five years, and an actress in a weekly skit for five years. “Needless to say I love the stage about as much as I love teaching the arts,” she said.

When she is not busy in the classroom, Alexia enjoys organizing. She also likes biking and horseback riding. Her mother owns horses, so Alexia travels home in the summer to ride there.

She also enjoys spending time with her pets. She has a Chihuahua named Stella and a cat named Shadow.
