Summer Winds Down
There is roughly a month of summer break left before students return to school. However, colleges and athletic practices begin in mid August, which makes it hard to keep lifeguard staff at the Edgerton pool. The last day that the pool will be open is Saturday, August 14. This year there were fourteen full and part time lifeguards working at the pool. They staffed the pool seven days a week. There were very few days the pool was closed for rainy or cool weather. In fact, June was much hotter than normal. The lifeguards also taught swimming lessons all summer long. Pool Manager Hannah Nerem estimated that 250 children took swimming lessons this summer. She also mentioned that in August, pool attendance always starts to dwindle as families take their summer vacations and the children who swim almost every day start to look for different activities to keep them occupied.
