Rebels Overecome Dutchmen

The weather has not gotten any warmer for baseball and neither have the Edgerton/SW Christian Dutchmen. Last week they played Murray County Central in Slayton. The forecast was for cool, aka less than 40 degree temperatures, and maybe some snow. The forecast was right, we had both. The Dutchmen took an early 4-1 lead but were unable to hold on, going down to a 9-4 defeat.

After MCC scored 1 run without the benefit of a hit in the first inning, E/SWC picked up 4 runs in the second. They strung together 4 hits, a walk, and a hit batsman to score those runs. Jacob Ockenga, who has shown a propensity to get hit, was plunked to lead off the inning. Wyatt Decker and Payton Bork each had a pair of singles. Ockenga scored on a wild pitch. With Decker on third, Gordon Dyk lifted a fly ball to center field to score him. Later Bork would score on a wild pitch. Zach Caspersen drew a walk and came around to score on a throwing error. Those were all the runs the Dutchmen would manage for the day.
