Doran Christoffels has retired from the Chandler Fire Department. He was presented with a special gift from the department at their annual supper earlier this month.

Doran joined the department in March 1991 and has served the last 30 years. He was the fire chief for five years (2006-2010). He was also the assistant chief for six years, captain for six  years, and the training officer for five years.

Throughout the years, Doran has seen many changes in fire fighting equipment. Some of those changes include self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), thermal image cameras, and extrication tools like JAWS of Life. Doran said that some of the challenges are having to learn the new technology in modern vehicles.

Doran and his wife, Jean, live in Chandler. They have been married for 36 years. Jean is the zoning administrator for Murray County and Doran is a vice president at the State Bank of Chandler, where he has worked for the past 34 years. They have three grown sons: Anthony, Jeremy, and Michael. Anthony and Stephanie have three children and are expecting a child in November. Jeremy and Allison are expecting a child in July. Michael and Hannah are engaged and will be married in June 2022.
