Track Team Wins at Slayton

On Friday, April 9, the Southwest Christian / Edgerton track team made the journey to Slayton, to take part in the MCC Conference Invite #1. This was a four team meet with four entries per individual event and up to two relays. Teams that competed were: SWC / E, Murray County Central, Adrian / Ellsworth and Hills – Beaver Creek. With Covid restrictions in place of limiting teams at a meet to 5, the conference established 4 dates when half the teams are in Slayton and the other half are in Mountain Lake. Temperatures were chilly in the low 50’s with a fairly strong north wind fading to a breeze late in the meet.

This was the first meet for the track and field teams and the Eagle squad came ready to show what they are capable of. The team captured 23 event wins and both teams cruised to big wins in the team standings. The girls’ team totaled 300 points with MCC being runner-up with 176.5. H-BC (49.5) and A / E (44) were close for third and fourth. On the boys’ side, the Eagle squad totaled 229.5 followed by MCC with 156. Again, H-BC (120.5) and A / E (117) had a tight race for third and fourth.

Despite only having practice for less than two weeks, the squad had some stellar performances, especially in the field events. Of course this being the first meet of the year, everyone had a season best. However, we had many athletes returning to their “normal” events who had career best finishes.
