Election of 1920 in 2020

Southwest Christian Elementary School’s 8th graders took part in a mock election. This election took place on election day of November 3, 2020.

The election of 1920 was a huge milestone in history. It was the first election that women could vote in. They had also just ended World War 1. The two candidates that were nominated were James Cox and Warren Harding.

The two different sections of 8th grade each represented one of the candidates. They went around school with speeches, posters, and brochures. By the day of election the school cast the vote with who they thought should win the mock election. The electoral college and the popular vote were both found by the end. The popular vote was 71 to 148. The electoral college was 4 to 47.

This blowout winner was Warren Harding. Just like the election of 1920 when Harding won.
